Thanks for the great feedback! I tried a few things with the ladders, then I just gave up. The second level was just to provide a "bigger picture" so you could see where you got stuck, etc.
That would make sense. Originally, it was supposed to be a maze underground, with AI enemies above ground, then I threw the idea away, and converted the "aboveground" part into an extension of the maze.
p.s. you don't really need the triple jump token. I just needed a way to explain how the player could only jump once in the first frame and thrice in the second!
