This tutorial requires the Advanced pathfinding object for MMF2, available here: http://www.clickteam.info/greyhill/rAPF1.002/APFSetup.exe

This shows how to get a single active object to find a path around obstacles. This would only really be suitable for a point and click style adventure game. To make an RTS (with multiple units) you would need to expand on this tutorial. This does however show the principles of the APF and you wont get far with the more advanced stuff without learning how to do this first.

I expect there probably is yet another better way of doing this kind of pathfinding, This tutorial has undergone a few revisions itself and this current version is much much more efficient and friendly than the first. Please do try to find a better method if you can.

There is also an example of more advanced pathfinding (Practical RTS pathfinding 2) but it does not include annotations and thus may be difficult to understand, so i strongly recommend going through this tutorial first and learning the basics of the APF. Please also refer to the APF's own help file and its tutorials.

Wow that's really cool, and I agree that the example files really don't tell you how to do this kind of thing.

When using maps do you need to create them in MMF, or is there a way of using an image as a map?

yes there should be since I know the other pathfinding object which is far less advanced can do that, but i've never looked into that.

I just wanted to make it so i could just place my objects and for the programming to automatically make that area impassable on the map rather than manually setting up each bit, which is really awkward. On this example if you try adding any object and setting it to group Bad then the diamond will navigate round it... which is nice.
