A word from the developer:

I made this game very quickly in about three days. I had an idea and I put it to the test. It is a short game, and meant for casual gaming. I hope you enjoy it!

Please give me feedback or suggestions on this game. Thanks again!

I couldn't even get the first one. :(

You do well with making nice, simple graphics that look good. I don't know how I can say this, since I couldn't even figure out the first combination, but I think it needs something. An extra element. Maybe the combinations are a bit more obvious but you have to hit the right blocks with an arkanoid bat. Or maybe the colors fall like tetris bricks and you land the right colors on the right plates. Wildcard colors maybe. Just something to make it more involved.

Also, when I restarted to see if I'd get a different color, it started playing the music twice (nice music it was) and I had to sit through the tutorial again. :(

I really love the atmosphere that's gone into this (which is an unusual thing to say for a clicking puzzle game), but I found it completely impossible! Although my colourblindness doesn't really make me the target audience - people with better vision will also have to weigh in...

You've got a really good sense of presentation in the simple and clean style - as far as interface goes, I would get rid of the requirement for the keyboard and just allow the two boxes to be clickable as well - it doesn't really make sense to jump to keyboard controls for just one action.

I'm going to change the controls to be completely mouse controlled, if I can.

I also have a subtle hint for those of you stuck on the first question, those colour blind, or those that never learnt colour sense or logic.

Anywho, I'll be updating this game soon, so come back! Also, remember to rate and comment and give me feedback.

Thanks to DavidN and OMC for your informative and constructive suggestions!

Update

  • The fill boxes are now selected by clicking, rather than using the arrow keys.

I'm not color blind but I found it pretty hard too. Maybe it should start with a lot less color choices and gradually get more.

I was thinking originally that I would start with just the primary colours and then make more colours, but I found it hard, so I stuck with all the colours instead.

I think I over-thought the first one. Are the combinations actual combinations? Or just eyeball guesses?

I was thinking I had to pick the right pair of blue/light purple and a darker color to get the exact shade, not just red and blue to make purple. xD

When I have more time I'll play some more.

Most of the beginning combinations are the basics, only using primary and secondary. It gets harder later on, so you have to think more logically.

Thank you for playing, and once you finish, please remember to rate the game!

I really like it, but I agree with the others, it is rather hard.
I don't know if it's how you colored them, like the red looks a little pink, or if I'm actually secretly color blind. I could probably do better if it was bright, obvious red, but that ruins your beautifully flowing graphics.

I really love what you do with your graphics, they're simple, but look new, kind of modern, and flow well, keep up the good work!

I think in an altogether new game, more could be done with colors, but not with this. I like this how it is, if you plan on using color mixing in a more active game situation, make a new game ;) This one is great!

It would be 10 stars if the colors were less confusing, but it's really difficult which set me off of it, but otherwise, it's perfect.

EDIT: I just finished it, I got used to it, but I still cant agree on the Green+Orange=Yellow. That just doesn't make logical sense unless you do the calculation. It might appear that way on a color wheel, but that's not how it works. Mixing secondary colors will not give you a primary. Green+Orange is essentially Yellow+Blue+Yellow+Red, so it should be Red+Blue+Yellow, which is brown, + a little yellow, so light yellow-brown. Good game, but still, that one doesn't make sense.

I think that you need to lessen the color palette for the earlier stages and work your way up to a bigger palette, otherwise it's just too confusing.

Have you guys seen Splotches? :O

Are... you sure you're not color blind?

There were a few very questionable ones. Also, I think the colors should be labeled and arranged better.

That's true. I didn't put much planning into it, as when I make my games it's usually when I play around with graphics. For example:

  • Bloxy in Puzzleland was created when I started making Tetris pieces.
  • Puzzle Palette was made when I was playing around with colours.

I actually grabbed the screenshots from your game and tried to combine the colours from the first question in Photoshop (the red and blue ones that are supposed to be "correct"). They didn't match no matter what blending mode and transparency level.

It would probably be more interesting if the actual combinations were based on some colour wheel mechanisms? Here's an example of a fun colour almost-game (don't remember where I found it originally).

The first few questions were made by colour-logic rather than actually getting RGB values and dividing them up. Aparently the purple I chose didn't seem to stand out as the obvious one to people.

The later questions have been RGB'd so it should be alright after the first few.

Perhaps you could brighten up the color scheme, because the "blue" is actually a very light blue, it'd be a lot less confusing if it was a solid blue.

RayRayTea's picture

I'm not saying the answers should be based on exact RGB choices (if anything, they should be based on HSB!), just that the "correct" answers aren't correct by any common logic ;)

Actually the first thing I self-confidently did (based on the assumption all the years spent learning visual communications actually taught me something) was to try and find the right answer using my experience with colors, but after it all failed I went and checked it in Photoshop.
